Jerry A Coyne

Why Evolution is True

There's been some loud opposition to evolutionary ideas, and this may make people think that evolutionary theory is riddled with holes. In Why Evolution is True Jerry A Coyne argues that this is far from the case, showing strong the evidence for evolution actually is.

The book looks at many different aspects of evolution, including the roles of natural and sexual selection, the presence of vestigial organs, and the messages written in the rocks - what the fossil record tells us about evolutionary change. There is also a discussion of the formation of distinct species and the part geography plays in this. The book moves on to look at the evolution of humans from other apes and ends with a refutation of some of the arguments against evolution.

If you are confused about the status of evolution then this book will certainly help to clarify things. I have to say that I have my doubts about books such as this - for those people who refuse to acknowledge evolution, simply adding more evidence is unlikely to change their minds. However, I think that this one is worth reading anyway, as it gives a highly informative and easy of read introduction to the subject.
